INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER OFFICE (IPTTO)

Introduction

In pursuit of the global goal of national transformation through technological and industrial revolution, the Federal Government of Nigeria established the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) as a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. NOTAP, in addition to some other functions, was to serve as the facilitating agency to manage and foster technology transfer, promotion of indigenous technology, commercialization of research and development (R&D) results, and assisting Universities with the processes of patenting products of original research and creative activities.

To achieve these goals, NOTAP has accordingly promoted the establishment of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices in Nigerian Universities and R&D Institutions in Nigeria to work in collaboration with it and serve as its institutional offices.

The Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka is a directorate created to promote and manage the University Intellectual Property Portfolio, which includes patents, copyrights, designs and trademarks. The IPTTO also serve to enhance the ease of transfer and localization of Technologies across science and non-science disciplines. Thus, the IPTTO positions itself as a bridge between the research disciplines of the University and cognate Industry partners.
